In recent years, pharmacist prescribing for minor ailments has been introduced in provinces across Canada. Minor ailments is used to describe a range of common health conditions that can be managed with minimal treatment and/or self care strategies and benefit from an assessment to determine an appropriate care plan. Examples of minor ailments include allergies, heartburn and certain infections.

During the appointment, the pharmacist will have a detailed discussion to assess the health condition. After a complete assessment, the pharmacist will recommend if self-care strategies, over the counter medications and/or prescription treatments may resolve the condition or if referral to a healthcare provider is required.
